the femtocell fad and how it will rape you

So the US cell carriers have gotten ballsy enough to rape us once more from our money. Thanks guys!

Sprint, Verizon, and now ATT are all selling what is called a femtocell device which will allow you to use your cell phone in low service areas, while relying on a broadband connection. Essentially making a VOIP call.

The funny thing is, they charge YOU to use another company’s service, and relieve the network strain on their own towers! You are paying for a broadband connection, rightfully so, you want internet in your house. And dammit, your cell only works in the bathroom at that certain angle, right? (unless you’re on Verizon/Sprint and have a CDMA phone) well… ATT convinced you to buy their $150 device, which piggybacks your wifi connection, and uses your internet to make the call. Basically, youre not using ANY of att’s network while you make the call. youre not using their towers, or their 3g data connection. youre using your wifi, and you already paid for it. kinda shitty, no?

To top it off, theyre still gonna charge you for minutes used (even though you didnt use their network) and some carriers, like sprint and verizon, are charging you a monthly fee!

AVOID FEMTOCELLS! if you want broadband voip phone in your house, but dont wanna or cant use your cell.. try skype or google voice!
