I’m no engineer, but wouldn’t it have made sense, to put a leveling sensor on the entire drilling rig? Then, in a disastrous event, the sensor could have set off an electronically controlled valve (that was already in place) to automatically close BEFORE the rig went under water?
I guess it takes a certain level of common sense. Maybe these companies need to hire a busload of engineers to design these things and their safety systems, but also maybe just like 5 or 6 people to go over and say: “hey, wait a minute guys.. wouldn’t it be wise to do this?”
